Finding Yourself in a Noisy World
Finding Yourself in a Noisy World
Close your eyes for 10 seconds and try to hear your own thoughts.
Hard, right?
Because there is always something playing. A notification. A reel. Someone's opinion. Someone's achievement. Someone telling you who you should be, what you should buy, what you should become by 30.
The world has never been louder.
We have 1000 voices in our pocket, and we have lost our own.
1. The Noise Wasn't Always This Loud*
For most of human history, you had maybe 150 people telling you who you were. Your family, your village, your friends.
Now, you wake up and 500 strangers tell you how to live before you even brush your teeth.
- Instagram says: Be more beautiful.
- LinkedIn says: Be more successful.
- Twitter says: Be more angry.
- Family WhatsApp group says: Be more traditional.
Everyone is giving you a script for your life. No wonder you feel confused. You are living 20 lives that aren't yours, and forgetting the one that is.
Finding yourself is not about adding something new. It's about turning down the volume so you can hear what was always there.
2. You Are Not Lost. You Are Just Overcrowded.
We love to say "I feel lost." But you are not lost.
Your phone has GPS that can find you within 2 meters anywhere on Earth.
You are not lost in location. You are lost in _attention_.
Your attention is being rented out every day to trends, gossip, comparison, and outrage. When you give away your attention all day, you have nothing left for yourself at night.
That's why you feel empty even after a full day of scrolling. You consumed everything except yourself.
3. How I Started Hearing Myself Again (And How You Can Too)
You don't need a Himalayan retreat. You need quiet rebellion in your daily life. Here is what actually works:
1. The First Hour is Yours, Not the World's
Don't touch your phone for the first 60 minutes after you wake up. No news, no messages. Brush, walk, make tea, sit. Let your brain wake up with YOUR thoughts, not the world's thoughts. This one habit changes everything.
2. Ask Better Questions
Instead of "What is happening in the world today?", ask:
- What do _I_ actually want today?
- What made me feel alive last week?
- If no one was watching, what would I do this afternoon?
The world asks you "What do you think about this issue?" Your soul asks "What do you feel about your own life?" Listen to the second question.
3. Schedule Boredom
We are terrified of being bored. But boredom is where you meet yourself.
Take one walk a week with no music, no podcast, no calls. Just you and the road in Cherkala. At first your mind will shout. Then it will whisper. That whisper is you.
4. Do One Thing That Can't Be Posted
Cook something and don't photograph it. Write a page and don't share it. Pray, or sit, or sing, and don't make it content.
When you do something that no one will clap for, you finally learn what YOU like, not what gets likes.
4. Finding Yourself is Not a Final Destination
Movies lie to us. They show a moment where the hero "finds himself" and then music plays and life is perfect.
Real life isn't like that.
You don't find yourself once and keep yourself forever. You find yourself every day, in small choices.
You find yourself when you say no when you want to say no.
You find yourself when you choose the quiet evening over the noisy party.
You find yourself when you delete the app that makes you hate your life.
Final Thought
The world will always be noisy. That's its job.
Your job is not to silence the world. Your job is to make your inner voice louder than the outer noise.
You don't need to become a new person. You need to return to the person you were before the world told you who to be.
He is still there. She is still there.
Turn down the volume. They are waiting.
