After Dawn

Walking back after sunset,  looking past my shoulder scared . Feel the eyes digging into me,  what could happen if they dared. I tell myself not to fear,  But if something happened then it would be 'cause my top was sheer. Growing footsteps behind me,  I slowly start running. My eyes moist ,  my feet numb.  Finally I reach home ,  in the frightening night. The colors return to my cheeks,  feeling safe and light. Dheena P. II B. A. Functional English

Stress

Stress is a normal human reaction that happens to everyone. Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. Everyone faces stress from time to time. Too much stress causes harm to the body's defence system and stress can increase blood pressure.   Stress is not measurable with tests. Only the person experiencing it can determine whether it is present and how severe it feels. Common causes of stress include work pressure or pressure from school, major life changes, relationship difficulties and financial problems. There are so many things you can learn to help you manage stress and keep a positive attitude. Some of them are exercise regularly, eat and drink to optimize your health, make time for hobbies and interests and learn to manage your time more effectively. Afshidha. K II B. A. HOLI

Holi is one of the major festivals of Hindus. It is celebrated in South Asian countries, especially in India and Nepal. The myth behind Holi is as follows. Hiranyakashyap wanted to kill his son, So he called his sister, Holika. She had a magic robe. This robe had the power to save the wearer from burning in fire. Hiranyakashyap ordered his sister to sit on a burning fire along with Prahlad. He thought that his sister would not be harmed by the fire because of the magic robe and Prahlad would be burnt to death. But the result was the opposite of what the evil demon king planned. Thus Prahlad came out of the burning fire safely and Holika was burnt to death. Holi is the festival of colours. It is celebrated with colors to mark the victory of virtue and goodness over evil. The festival is celebrated for two days. The 2nd day called Rang Panchami marks the closing day of the Holi festival. People are seen with different varieties of colors on Holi. They put colors on each other, sing and

Why is Society not Accepting Adolescence ?

Today' s society does not give enough value to teenagers. They are seen as bad or negative by people in general. Why does the society do this?             Adolescence is a time when life can be full of problems. Any good thing the teenagers do puts the family or community into a negative mindset. A simple example can be seen when a man and a woman talk at a public place. The public who see this start to compare them with other bad examples as in they are in a relationship. Those two speaking in public may be friends or acquaintances or family members. It is because of this kind of thinking that one become a negative character in the society.        Adolescents want to enjoy life and live happily while coping with strain and stress. But they are not able to do that, because they also have to focus on education. They put their joy aside in doing good for the family. It turns out that this sacrifice is forever, it can not be erased until death. In the case of some people, i

Challenges

In our life, there are periods of challenges that we must face, but the real challenge is how we grow and learn while overcoming them. We have been facing challenges since our childhood. We believed that life was simple and effortless. Well, we were wrong. While growing up, we continue to face countless hurdles that only get bigger and bigger. There is no human being on earth that is strong, powerful, wise or rich who has not experienced struggle, suffering or failure. We should always be ready to face adversity and challenges. A person who has not encountered difficulties in life can never achieve success. For example, a successful executive has to face the ups and down of the life. If anyone lose hope during difficult times, they would not achieve success and would be replaced by others. Every challenge brings us new insights and prepares us to move forward. It helps us to broaden our perspective, giving us a broader view of life and a clearer idea of what it’s all about. We all face

Music

Just imagine, how would our life be without music? In my view, it would be like a plant without sunlight, half of the human joy will be gone. Music could help one to relieve their stress and strain and play a role as a bandage on a wound. Music has a superpower that it can turn any boring situation into a good one, often its a mood booster. I used to love music from my childhood and my favourite artists was Justin Bieber and the Band One Direction. It's amazing that the feeling that music brings to us when no one else cares about our feelings and in situations when we couldn't explain our feelings to someone, music captures our feelings and act as a mirror. Hearing the music with the lyrics that suits our current mood or situation hits the mind in a different way for sure. Music has the power that it can make someone feel about the love even though he/she don't have any relationship, can make someone cry even though he/she don't have any sorrow, can make someone smile e

Trees are our best friends

Trees are our best friends because they clean the air we breathe. Likewise, they also clean the water and soil and ultimately make the earth a better place. It is also a fact that people who live near trees are healthier, fit, and happier than people who do not. Moreover, it is our responsibility to look after our friends who serve us in many ways. By saving plants, we are not doing any favor to plants but to ourselves. Because trees and plants do not depend on us but our lives depend on them. Trees are important to us in a lot of ways and we cannot ignore their importance. They are important because they give us fresh air to breathe, food to eat and shelter/shade from sunlight and rainfall. Besides this, there are many medicines in the market that are made up of trees extracts. Apart from this, there are plants too that have medicinal value. They bring peacefulness and create a pleasing and relaxing environment. Also, they help in reflecting the harmful rays of the sun and maintainin

A True Friend

A true friend is someone who tries to be one of us with us. It is okay if it is our parents siblings, or any other relationship. We must try to understand ourselves and they need to reach out to listen to us. They can encourage you to become a better version of you. True friends don't get diverted by what others may say or think of you. And a true friend is one who tells us our faults and shortcomings and tries to make us a better person. Friends are the most important part of our life. They will help us to cultivate the goodwill in us. I strongly feel that our best friends are our parants. Maybe they can understand us more than other persons. They can give us a solution to every problem we face. I am very happy to say that my best friends are my parants. Parants should act as friends to their children. They can save children from involving in bad company. They teach us to identify the good and the bad in our lives. Shifna. K. T. I B. A. Social Comparison

When we start our life from our childhood, random people begin to speak about us. "The baby looks like her dad or she looks like her mom"... Most of the people are concerned about others' lives. When we grow up, we start to go school . Another comparison starts from there. Our parents compare us with someone's grades. Our social behaviour is also subjected to comparison. It feels like everything is controlled by others around us. This can be extremely harmful and result in negative thoughts and behaviour among children. When we start doing something in adulthood, we compare our life with someone which again has negative impacts. It may affect our mind.  Comparing your behavior to that of other people might make you jealous, regretful or more motivated. When a girl dresses well, people look at her as if she is an alien. They forget that everyone has rights. A married couple always face questions about baby! People are too concerned about the lives of others. And i
