Neymar: A Movie Review

The silver screen has seen many films that tell the tale of endearing friendships between humans and dogs. This Sudhi Maddison movie showcases a wonderful symbiosis between two best buddies and a dog that accidentally walks into their lives.

The Mathew Thomas and Naslen bromance has become an everyday favorite in Malayalam ever since the pair became a hit through Thanneer Mathan Dinangal. After Jo and Jo, the duo has teamed up for a slice-of-life movie based on teenage love. Kunjava (Mathew) is attracted to his classmate Dona, and he is brainstorming ideas to woo her with his pal Sinto (Naslen). They decide to get a pet to grab her attention. Crisis sets in as naughty and smart Neymar enters their lives. Will Neymar become a troublesome addition to the village?

Scripted by Paulson Skaria and Adarsh Sukumaran, the dog-human love story is written with clichéd moments and humor to once again highlight the celebrated Neslen-Mathew chemistry. The star of the day, however, is Neymar, who creates soulful and exhilarating moments that save the movie from sinking into boredom. Alongside Neymar's animated and gripping sequences, the quirky combo of Vijayaraghavan-Shammi Thilakan offers some riveting moments. The friendship bond between them, which runs as a subplot in the film, is more engrossing than that of the youngsters at times.
