History of Wayanad Churam
Thamarassery Churam or Wayanad Churam is a hill Road that connects Kozhikode and Wayanad District. It is well known for us because of the movie 'Vellanakalude Naadu' . It is 12 km long pass that connect Wayanad and Kozhikode in a easy way. It includes nine hairpin curves. It keeps a number of myths and secrets behind it's existence.The pass remains about the betrayal by the British people towards the tribal leader of that place named Karinthandan. The time of invasions of Tippu and the British have to find a way to "Vaithiry" In Wayanad. So many engineers are came forward to make it. But they're all becomes the victims of animal attack. Then a well famous engineer decided to take the mission. But the darkness and roaring of animals makes them to quit. After they know about the Paniyan tribals who they are living in a forest village. They assume that they might know the way to reach other side of the forest. The tribes said that Moopan only knows the way. And they decided to meet him. But Karinthandan, the Moopan doesn't agreed to the act against the nature. They beg him that they only need a way and never destroy the nature. On the basis of the the agreement Moopan led them to other side. And they reached. They were all happy but the engineer become jealous and angry to Karinthandan. He felt shame on his own profession. And he decided to kill Karinthandan , he took the gun and fired but he missed. At the time friend of the engineer said that we can't do anything until he remove his ritual ring. He only removes when he take bath or sleep. Some days after they saw Karinthandan bathing , they took the chance and killed. After the road open to vehicles. But the continues road accident created a belief among the native people that these are caused by Karinthandan's goast.After having so many such incident they bring a wizard to solve the problem. We can see when we passes through this area there is a tree tied with chains. Its an attractive place for the tourists. Still some people believe this mythology.
