Natural Disasters in Kerala

 A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the Earth; examples include firestorms, duststorms, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, and other geological phenomena. A natural disaster can cause loss of life or damage to property, and typically leaves some economic damage in its wake, the severity of which depends on the affected population's resilience and on the infrastructure available.  

      Frequent floods affect the South Indian state Kerala due to high rainfall during monsoon season. It was the worst flood in kerala in nearly a century in 2018.The flood affected people in many ways.They lost their homes, property and everything in this disaster. It was an unwarranted disaster that people were not prepared at all to face it. In kerala state disaster management authority placed the state in red alert when the rainfall increased and the dams were overfilled. At the time, government cancelled onam celebration, and the allocated funds have been diverted for relief efforts. Government allowed leave for many days at that time for offices and educational institutions. Government restricted the fishermen from going fishing in the sea. WhatsApp groups sprung up as control centers that coordinated help and support across various areas. A good majority of the population were involved in arranging supplies and help material in various ways.
