A Heartfelt Visit to Assisi Deaf School
A Heartfelt Visit to Assisi Deaf School
On Wednesday night, our miss left the group after reminding us that we would visit the deaf school the next day. This visit was part of our studies, as we had a chapter related to it. Though it was meant to be an academic visit, we were really looking forward to it. That night, miss asked our group if everyone was ready, but honestly, none of us seemed very interested at first. However, everything was already planned and arranged that very night. Still, it felt as if we weren’t fully prepared, and we simply said, “See you all tomorrow.”
The next morning, dressed neatly in our uniforms with tags on, I was about to leave after breakfast when miss sent me a message asking if everything was okay. Not really knowing what to say, I replied with a smile, “Everything is set. We’re on our way.”
When miss saw us all together, the first thing she said was that we looked beautiful — all of us in uniform with our tags. Then we boarded the bus to Valanchery and got off in front of Assisi Deaf School. We walked in excitedly, and the teachers and students were already waiting for us. After a short conversation, we began visiting the classes.
We interacted most with the sixth graders. Since they couldn’t speak, one of the sisters there helped by translating what they wanted to say. We played games with them to make the session more engaging. They told us that they liked Maths the most, so we gave them some Maths-related games, along with a few others just for fun. We also gave them candies, which made them really happy.
Among them, I noticed a little girl with beautiful, special eyes. She was studying in the first grade. All the children there were incredibly strong, cheerful, and talented. We were truly amazed by the way they communicated and expressed themselves.
After spending some time with them and distributing sweets, our teacher presented an orientation class for the students. While miss was conducting the session, we noticed that the school also had a band class for the children. The school and its surroundings were very beautiful to see. During the orientation, we took some photos and videos to remember the moments.
After the session, we all returned happily, sharing stories and experiences from the visit. It was a truly beautiful experience — one that will always be remembered with joy.
